olympic weightlifting - note to self
as i begin to go up in weight, the imperfections really start to show in my lifts that i never really noticed before. as the weight gets heavier, there is less you can get away with. everything need to be perfect, if not, really damn close to perfect.
i got up to 35kg in multiple sets for the snatch, up to 45kg for many rounds on the clean, and up to 35kg on the split jerk tonight.
note to self:
- be patient on the second pull in the snatch and the clean. don’t pull too early as it causes your weight to shift too far forward, throwing your balance off. try and keep your feet planted on the ground until the bar comes into contact with the hip.
- keep your elbows down in the split jerk. they shouldn’t be jetting forward so much. the bar should rest nicely on your shoulders.
- shorten the dip on the split jerk. you don’t need the additional distance, so cut it out. it’ll help to keep the torso more upright, thus making it easier to get the bar to move in a complete straight line.

Couldn’t agree more about the second pull on the lifts; I always end up overpulling and catching the bar way too high up.
